Frequently Asked Questions
MEALS AND LODGING We are very excited to announce that lodging at the SMU Girls Soccer Academy is returning to the campus of SMU! The campers will be staying in the same dorms that the SMU Women's Soccer Team stays in during the year! Located right next to the SMU Soccer Fields, the rooms are very comfortable and will be an extremely safe and efficient venue. All rooms are newly renovated and feature air conditioning. Each room also has a telephone that can accept long distance calls, but cell phones are welcome as well. In addition to the coaching staff staying in the dorms, the SMU Girls Soccer Academy hires a staff to help monitor and supervise the rooms. Meals will be provided as usual in an all-you-can-eat format to ensure that every player's needs are met.
WHAT TO BRING Other than the normal amount of street clothes we suggest that you bring the following items: 1 pair of soccer shoes, 1 pair of flat soled or turf shoes, one pair of tennis shoes (very important), 6 t-shirts, 6 pairs of shorts, 8 pairs of socks, shin guards, 1 swim suit, small bag or shoe bag, sandals, water container, toiletries including sun block, and other soccer type clothes, twin bed linens, a pillow and bath towels,. Don't forget to bring your soccer ball if you did not buy one from the camp.
PLAYING AGES Campers will be placed in teams by age at the beginning of camp. If a camper has the ability to play with an older age group, they will be moved accordingly.
MEDICAL CARE Each camp will have a full-time trainer from the SMU Sports Medicine staff on duty to take care of all minor injuries. For more serious problems, the local hospital is just minutes away.
MEDICAL WAIVER A medical waiver is required for each camper to attend camp. Each waiver must be notarized from a notary. Click here to download the waiver.
SHUTTLE SERVICE For those campers who will be arriving by airplane, Dallas offers two airports that you may choose from. The first airport is DFW, which is the areas major airport. The second is Love Field, which is located very close to the SMU campus. Every major airline has flights into DFW and Southwest Airlines has flights into Love Field. Standard taxi fare from these two airports is $25-$50 each way. SMU Soccer Academy has made arrangements to provide service for $10 each way from Love Field, and $15 each way from DFW. The SMU Soccer Academy recommends flying Southwest Airlines into Love Field. For those making flight reservations, check-in is from 2:30-4:00pm on Sunday afternoon and check-out is at 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon. For your convenience, please pay the driver at the time of pick-up. Be sure to notify us of your flight information by contacting Brent Erwin at berwin@smu.edu or at 214-768-4030 no later than seven (7) days before your camp starts. This will help us to confirm your arrival and departure times and ensure that your travel needs are met.
SPENDING MONEY & CAMP STORE The camp fee includes all the meals that the players will eat during the week. However, many players like to order pizza as a snack after the evening session. Also, some players may want to take advantage and buy the latest soccer gear at our camp store. Please make certain that campers are provided for appropriately.
