SMU Girl's Soccer Academy

Southern Methodist University Soccer is committed to developing quality talent each and every year. Day in and day out, our team experiences intense training that is designed to develop the players to their utmost potential. We work hard to create these training sessions to maximize their abilities. The same focus and attention to detail will be found in our camp program, which is directed towards serious soccer training. At the Brent Erwin SMU Women's Soccer Academy, we will continue the tradition of SMU excellence. The SMU Women's Soccer Academy invites players of all levels who have a desire to improve and develop their talents. We will strive to give our campers a solid base of technical training and combine that with solid tactical instruction. At our camps, we will utilize the latest training techniques. This ensures that every camper receives instruction that not only lets them improve during the week, but also shows them how to practice after camp is over. Each of our campers receives individual and group instruction designed to meet her specific needs and capabilities. We want each of our campers to learn new skills and improve upon those they already have. As Head Coach at SMU, and the camp director of the SMU Women's Soccer Academy, I am looking forward to working with you in developing your game. My staff and I will be involved in every aspect of the camp and are eager to help you develop as a soccer player. I hope that you join us this summer!

Meagan Surrency enters her third season (2011) with the Mustangs. She was named an assistant coach for SMU women's soccer, announced head coach Brent Erwin on July 14, 2009. Surrency comes to Dallas after working at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

"I am very happy to have Meagan join us at SMU," said Erwin. "We always strive to provide the very best resources for our team. Meagan brings a wealth of experience as a top level student-athlete, but her background and work in Mental Conditioning gives our program a special edge. Meagan brings great insight and perspective to SMU Soccer."

Surrency served as the mental conditioning coach at the IMG Academy while completing her master's degree from the University of Florida in Human Performance with a specialization in Sport Psychology in May of 2009. She played at Jacksonville from 2003-06 where she was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team each season, and helped the Dolphins reach the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Surrency graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology and Exercise Sciences in 2007.

Waggoner began coaching soccer and goalkeepers in 1995 in South Texas. He has played professional soccer for the Houston Hurricanes, the Texas Toros, the Texas Rattlers, and most recently with the Texas Spurs of the PDL. In 1999, Waggoner was invited into the Dallas Burn Pro player combine, entered into the 1999 MLS Superdraft, then invited to train day-to-day with the Dallas Burn organization (now FC Dallas), playing games with their minor league teams. A 1994 graduate from Baylor University, Waggoner has worked in soccer ever since, starting coaching in 1995 as goalkeeper and team coach for the Katy Strikers (now Texas Premier FC) outside of Houston, Texas. Waggoner worked as goalkeeper evaluator for South Texas state teams in the '82, '84, and '85 birth years. In the spring of 1998, Joe coached the '84 girls South Texas ODP state team. He spent four years in Houston, coaching teams and goalkeepers for the Strikers and ODP until moving to Dallas in 1999. Waggoner has worked as goalkeeper coach for the Texas Spurs (two years), Southwest (Now Revolution Premier - five years), Texas Spirit (four years), and Club Classic (four years) soccer clubs. Since 2001, Waggoner has worked as the head goalkeeper coach for North Texas Soccer in the Olympic Development Program working with every age for the boys' and girls' state teams. Waggoner is a clinician for North Texas, educating team and individual coaches on training their goalkeepers. He teaches the goalkeeper portion of many of the E, D, and C clinics in North Texas. Joe has also led instruction at the Annual General Meeting for North Texas, and led goalkeeper education programs for recreational associations in North Texas. He received a national "C" coaching license in 1997. "Joe is an elite goalkeeper coach and we are lucky to have his vast experience and expertise at SMU," states Erwin. "Joe is one of the top goalkeeper coaches in the South, working with many of the top keepers in North Texas and beyond. His knowledge, personality and attitude compliment our team. He does a wonderful job working with all of our goalkeepers and team! He is another perfect fit on our coaching staff."
